The Coolidge Police Department has issued an alert regarding multiple fraudulent telephone scams reported to their agency. The public is being warned to be vigilant and to discuss these scams with vulnerable adults who could potentially fall victim.
The scam involves calls from individuals claiming to be members of local law enforcement agencies. These callers inform victims that there are warrants for their arrest because they failed to appear for jury duty in a murder case.
Victims receive two images via text messages: a fake arrest warrant and a document titled “Mobile Escort Orders.” The warrant instructs victims to pay a percentage of a large sum of money, plus an additional fee, to avoid arrest. The “Mobile Escort Orders” document instructs victims to remain on the phone while making the payment, claiming this is necessary for their protection in case they are contacted by law enforcement. It also threatens that the case would be forwarded for arrest and detainment if the call is disconnected before completing the payments.
These scam calls appear to come from legitimate law enforcement phone numbers. The Coolidge Police Department emphasizes that they and other law enforcement agencies will never make calls like this or request payment by phone or any other means. The public is advised to be cautious and to report these incidents immediately.
