SAN TAN VALLEY, AZ — A Johnson Ranch garage fire injured one resident and prompted an early-morning rescue. Rural Metro Fire crews responded around 2:30 a.m. after a 911 call reporting the blaze.

The first engine on scene found heavy smoke and flames from the garage. The fire had already spread into a second-floor bedroom and the attic.

Crews launched an immediate fire attack and began rescue efforts. One occupant suffered serious smoke inhalation and burns. Paramedics treated and transported that person to a hospital.

Additionally, firefighters rescued one dog from the home. Two others also made it out on their own.

The homeowner narrowly escaped. Investigators believe an e-scooter charging in the garage may have started the fire.
