Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers detained a driver on suspicion of DUI in Gold Canyon on January 30, 2026, after multiple reports of a vehicle driving erratically on US-60. The driver and his passenger were both heavily intoxicated when troopers found them passed out at a gas station.

Multiple Calls Tracked the Vehicle Across the Highway

The incident began around noon east of Superior. Troopers received a report that a vehicle had hit a guard rail and was drifting out of its lane. While they searched for it, a second call described the same vehicle still unable to hold its lane, now westbound from Florence Junction. It then turned around and headed east again. A final report placed it at a gas station in Gold Canyon.

Troopers Find Driver and Passenger Passed Out at Gas Pump

A Pinal County Sheriff’s deputy found a witness in the parking lot. Meanwhile, a DPS sergeant located the vehicle parked at a pump. Both occupants had passed out inside.

A trooper woke the driver and got him to open the door. An overpowering smell of alcohol poured from inside the vehicle. After repeated attempts, the trooper got the driver out of the vehicle. However, the man was too impaired to support his own weight. He also could not form coherent words. He was taken to a station, where his blood was drawn under a search warrant.

Passenger Found in Worse Condition

His passenger was in significantly worse shape and had urinated on himself. After being removed from the vehicle, he held onto the side of the truck to stay upright. He then slid down and passed out beneath it. Medical personnel responded and took him to a local hospital.

Gold Canyon Drunk Driving Incident Ends With Hospitalization

After the driver’s blood draw, he was transported to the same hospital and admitted.

DPS stressed that driving under the influence leads to jail. The agency also noted that modern technology provides many options to avoid getting behind the wheel while impaired.
