The Arizona Department of Health Services reports that weekly flu cases jumped 81% compared to the prior week, though overall respiratory illness activity remains below typical seasonal levels. During the week of November 16–22, the state recorded 402 confirmed flu cases, 35 RSV cases, and 663 COVID-19 cases. While all three illnesses are currently trending lower than previous years, flu is the one showing a clear upward trajectory.

Current Season Remains Mild Compared to Past Years
Despite the weekly increase, this season’s numbers are significantly lower than what Arizona typically sees. Flu cases are down 78% compared to the same week last year and 70% below the five-season average. RSV cases are 63% lower than last year, and COVID-19 cases are 75% below last year’s levels. However, the report notes that confirmed cases represent only a fraction of actual illnesses, since many people don’t visit a doctor when sick.
