Police Enforce Boundaries After Target Shooters Found on Protected Tribal Land

The Gila River Police Department is reminding the public to respect tribal boundaries following a recent enforcement action on Community land.

Gila River Police Rangers recently encountered a group of non-members engaging in target practice on Gila River Indian Community property. The violators were cited and had their property seized.

The department emphasized that only enrolled members of the Gila River Indian Community may use Community land for target practice or recreation.

“These lands are protected,” the department stated, noting that the areas “hold cultural, environmental, and spiritual significance” to the Community.
