This evening at 6:44 pm, AJPD officers responded to a drowning call at a community pool at 380 S. Phelps Dr. A one-year-old child had been at the community pool with their family when they briefly became distracted. When they turned back, the child was found underwater and they immediately called 911.
Officers arrived within minutes and began chest compressions. The child became responsive after vomiting and was transported to the hospital for further care.
This incident is a reminder of how quickly water-related emergencies can occur. AJPD urges families to remain vigilant around water and to never leave young children unattended, even for a moment.
