ELOY, Ariz. – Five local firefighters received one of the Eloy Fire District’s highest honors after successfully resuscitating a choking victim who had gone into cardiac arrest.

Battalion Chief Travis Hartman, Acting Captain Jimmy Cowles, and Firefighters Mason Campa, Davin Ethington, and Cash Heet were awarded the Eloy Fire District Lifesaving Medal for their quick action and skilled response during the recent emergency.

The C-Shift Station One crew was dispatched to a choking call that quickly escalated into a life-threatening situation when they found the patient in full cardiac arrest upon arrival. The team immediately began advanced life support care while working to locate and remove the object causing the airway obstruction.

Their swift intervention proved successful as they were able to restore spontaneous circulation in the patient, who was then transported to a local hospital. Medical authorities expect the patient to make a full recovery.

“Saving a life requires great skill and impeccable timing,” said a spokesperson for the Eloy Fire District. The Lifesaving Medal is specifically reserved for paramedics and EMTs who successfully resuscitate victims who would have otherwise perished.

The five first responders were commended for their exemplary performance during the emergency, with the fire district noting that their actions exemplified the highest standards of emergency medical response.
