Arizona Troopers Use Grappler to End I-10 Pursuit

A suspect vehicle evaded Phoenix Police officers on I-10 through Casa Grande on March 24, 2026. The driver was also unlawfully preventing a passenger from leaving. Officers immediately requested assistance from nearby agencies. Troopers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety responded and coordinated a stop using spike strips and a grappler on Interstate 10 near Avra Valley Road.

Troopers coordinated with Phoenix Police and a Phoenix Firebird, an aerial reconnaissance asset operating under the Phoenix Fire Department, to maintain continuous visual contact on the suspect vehicle.

Troopers successfully deployed a spike strip on I-10 near Avra Valley Road. Subsequently, the vehicle was grappled and brought to a safe, controlled stop. The passenger was not injured. Additionally, troopers took the driver into custody without incident.

The driver faces allegations of felony flight and unlawful detainment following the arrest.
