The Pinal County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a process Tuesday to select the inaugural San Tan Valley Town Council, establishing a timeline that has now resulted in 14 candidates advancing to public interviews.

Under the approved process, each supervisor submitted candidate recommendations to Clerk of the Board Natasha Kennedy by 7:00 p.m. on September 11th. Per the Board’s directive, Clerk of the Board Natasha Kennedy compiled a final list of 14 candidates for public interviews scheduled for September 15th at 9:30 a.m.

“Just the name is fine. First and last,” Kennedy told Supervisor Jeff Serdy when he asked about submission requirements during the September 10th meeting.

The evening deadline gave Kennedy time to process applications that arrived at the 5:00 p.m. cutoff on September 11th. The approved process included a contingency plan: if supervisors could not agree on the interview list, Chairman Stephen Miller and Supervisor Mike Goodman would form a subcommittee to make the determination, with interviews rescheduled if needed.

Fourteen Candidates Selected for Monday Interviews

By the September 11th deadline, supervisors had selected 14 candidates from 86 applications. On Friday morning, September 12th, the Clerk of the Board’s Office announced that interviews will take place Monday, September 15th, at 9:30 a.m. during a Special Session Meeting.

The selected candidates are:

  • Andrew Pioske
  • Brian Tyler
  • Bryan Hunt
  • Calvin Cameron
  • Christopher Maddux
  • Daniel Oakes
  • Daren Schnepf
  • Diane Combes
  • Gia Jenkins
  • James Garrison
  • Larry Harmer
  • Lisa Boyer
  • Rupert Wolfert
  • Tyler Hudgins

Ten applicants failed to meet statutory requirements and one missed the deadline. Application packets for all selected candidates are available at the county’s published agenda site.

Interview Process and Appointments

Each candidate will select a number upon arrival Monday to determine interview order. The proceedings will be broadcast live at pinal.gov/meetingvideos from the Board of Supervisors Hearing Room in Florence.

To qualify, applicants had to be legal residents of Arizona residing within the incorporated boundaries of the Town of San Tan Valley, and must have resided there for at least one year. Additional requirements included voter registration, English literacy, and a minimum age of 18.

The seven appointed members will serve until the 2026 election. The Board is expected to vote on the seven candidates at their regular meeting on Wednesday, September 17th.
