APACHE JUNCTION, AZ – Sundt Construction has begun building a 65,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Apache Junction. Once the first phase is operational, the facility is expected to create roughly 100 new jobs. On January 30, city officials, Sundt leadership, and community stakeholders gathered for the groundbreaking of what officials say will be the largest industrial building in Apache Junction.
New Facility Brings Jobs and Training to Apache Junction
The Sundt Construction Apache Junction facility will manufacture structural and mechanical systems. These include items like pipe spools, trestles, and piping for water treatment skids. The products will support the company’s construction projects across Arizona and the country. According to the latest figures reported by the company, Sundt is an employee-owned general contractor with approximately 4,500 employees nationwide. The company has been headquartered in Arizona since 1929.
According to the company’s latest press release, the facility also includes approximately 10,000 square feet of office space. During the July 2025 City Council meeting, Economic Development Director Ryan Kaup said a typical industrial building of this size would contain only about 2,000 square feet of office space. The office component will serve as a regional training center, with Sundt employees traveling to Apache Junction for training programs. The facility may also partner with local educational institutions.
Apache Junction Mayor Chip Wilson said the project “reflects the confidence in our area’s talented workforce and quality of life.”
Site Location and Development Details
The project sits on a 36.6-acre site southwest of Tomahawk Road and U.S. 60. The initial phase covers nine acres at the property’s northeast corner. Industrial properties border the site to the west and south, and U.S. Highway 60 runs along its northern boundary.
The building features a 45-foot height limit to accommodate equipment and storage needs. Furthermore, the west wall was designed with removable tilt-up panels. This allows the building to expand westward in future phases. Additional acreage has been reserved for that purpose.

Apache Junction’s Industrial Market
According to data presented by Kaup in July 2025, Apache Junction had about 500,000 square feet of industrial inventory. By comparison, neighboring East Valley cities ranged from 1.8 million square feet in Queen Creek to 41 million in Mesa. However, the city’s industrial vacancy rate stood at just 3.5%, well below the regional rate of over 10%.
Kaup also noted that before WW Clyde opened its headquarters the month prior, no new industrial building had been constructed in Apache Junction in over a decade.
Approval Process and Community Support
The Apache Junction City Council approved the project 7-0 on July 15, 2025. The vote followed a 5-0 recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission on June 24, 2025. The council approved land use changes to allow industrial development on the site.
Community members voiced support during public hearings. Andre Meek noted the project fits naturally alongside nearby auto dealers and equipment rental businesses. He also emphasized the value of new employment and an expanded tax base. During earlier Planning Commission hearings, Stephen Harshman said the jobs “will really help out our community.”
Construction Timeline and Future Growth
Construction is currently underway. The facility is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.
