Traffic Stop Escalates to Deadly Confrontation in San Tan Valley

On July 17, 2025, at approximately 7:51 p.m., a Pinal County Sheriff’s Office sergeant initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Gantzel Road and Pecan Creek Drive. The vehicle failed to yield, and deputies initiated a pursuit.

During the pursuit, the suspect committed an aggravated assault against the sergeant using the vehicle.

The vehicle later crashed near North Gantzel Road and East Combs Road, where a deputy-involved shooting occurred. Preliminary evidence indicates that rounds were fired at deputies.

Deputy involved shooting occurred on North Gantzel Road and East Combs Road in San Tan Valley.

The driver, a 46-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

A male passenger was detained and transported to a Valley hospital with minor injuries.

A PCSO deputy was also injured during the exchange of gunfire and was transported to a Valley hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

This remains an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
