District 4 Supervisor and Vice Chairman of the Pinal County Board of Supervisors, Jeffrey McClure, has written to the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), requesting answers to the ongoing issues with the San Carlos Irrigation Project (SCIP), which provides electricity to around 13,000 Pinal County residents living in parts of Casa Grande, Florence, Coolidge, the Copper Corridor, and the Gila River Indian Community.
Customers of the utility company have faced persistent issues, including significant price hikes, frequent service disruptions, unplanned outages, and infrastructure problems, leaving them without air conditioning for hours at a time during the scorching Arizona summer. Compounded by a lack of communication from SCIP to their customers, McClure, in his letter, calls for answers in seven key areas, stressing that “…this is not just a utility issue; it is a public health, safety, and economic crisis,” saying that he is “…committed to advocating on behalf of my constituents and will continue pressing for accountability, reform, and oversight until meaningful change is achieved.”
