A proposal for a new traffic signal on Hunt Highway in San Tan Valley, Pinal County, has sparked discussions among local officials and residents. The signal is part of a larger mixed-use development plan, specifically the Johnson Ranch Multi-Family project.

The proposed traffic light would serve as the primary entrance for the new development while aligning with an existing subdivision across the street.

Several local residents voiced their concern that there were too many traffic lights within a short stretch of Hunt Highway. However, County Engineer Chris Wanamaker emphasized the necessity of the signal, stating, “With this particular project, you need a traffic signal because of the primary axis, where it’s located, and the amount of traffic generated.”
The plan aims to improve access and safety for both the new development and the existing subdivision. In addition to the traffic light, the proposal includes creating a right-in, right-out access point and adding a turn lane to further manage traffic flow.
A key safety feature of the development plan is an emergency vehicle access gate on the Johnson Ranch Boulevard side of the planned development. This gate, controlled by the development managers, will allow residents and emergency vehicles to enter and exit through this point if an accident blocks Hunt Highway, ensuring alternate access in critical situations.
