The PCSO Search and Rescue (SAR) Posse successfully rescued a female hiker on the evening of October 15 after she became lost without a light source.
The SAR team was dispatched at 7 p.m. to locate the hiker, who had started her trek around noon at Jacob’s Crosscut. She went off trail, became disoriented, and was unable to find her way back as darkness fell. Her phone battery died, and temperatures began to drop.
Rescue teams found the woman approximately one mile from the trailhead. She had fallen earlier in the day but was able to hike out with assistance after being provided warm clothing and a headlamp.

Authorities are reminding hikers to prepare for the unexpected as weather cools and daylight hours shorten. Essential items include a light source such as a headlamp or flashlight, extra layers of clothing, a phone charger, water, and snacks.
