The Florence Town Council unanimously approved a town code update on January 6, 2026. This change aligns the code with Florence’s new four-day workweek.
What Changes for Water Service Customers
Standard water service activation fees now apply Monday through Thursday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Requests outside these hours will incur after-hours charges. Previously, the code referenced Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Actual fees remain unchanged. Deputy Town Manager Lisa Garcia described it as “merely a housekeeping item” during the meeting.
Florence’s Four-Day Workweek Drives the Update
Florence transitioned to a four-day, 10-hour work schedule for the majority of town operations on January 5, 2026. Police and fire services continue operating 24/7. Additionally, the Florence Community Center, Viney Jones Library, and Dorothy Nolan Senior Center keep their existing schedules.
Resident Questions Four-Day Schedule
During public comments, resident Les Buckner asked the council to reconsider the four-day workweek. “How does only having offices open four days a week better serve our public?” he said. Buckner cited his corporate experience, where his employer maintained five-day service while offering employees flexible schedules. “I think you’ve done your public a disservice by taking away business on Friday,” he said.
