CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – A suspected faulty electrical plug sparked a devastating Christmas night fire that left multiple families displaced and destroyed their holiday celebrations in Casa Grande.

The blaze, which began at 11:43 p.m. on December 25 at 1139 E. 2nd Street, started at the front of a single-story home and quickly intensified. Fire crews responded to find heavy flames that soon spread to a neighboring vehicle and then to the attic of the adjacent home at 1137 E. 2nd Street.

The Christmas evening fire drew a large emergency response, with fire crews from multiple agencies working together to battle the blaze. Units from Casa Grande Fire Department were joined by Eloy Fire District, City of Maricopa Fire/Medical Department, Arizona City Fire District, and Gila River Fire, along with utility companies APS and Southwest Gas.

A family member speaking about the incident revealed that the fire has left the residents without a home or transportation, having lost all their possessions in the blaze. The family, including their two dogs and a cat, are currently displaced and seeking assistance from the community.

“This has been such a devastating event for them all,” the family member said. “They have lost everything.” Community members have suggested establishing a GoFundMe campaign to help the affected families rebuild their lives after the holiday tragedy.

While investigators continue to examine the scene, preliminary findings indicate that a faulty electrical plug at the 1139 E. 2nd Street residence was likely responsible for igniting the Christmas night blaze that affected both properties.

The community is rallying to support the displaced families as they cope with their losses during what should have been a festive holiday season.
