The Apache Junction Police Department has released body camera footage from the officer-involved shooting on June 2, 2025, that fatally wounded Officer Gabriel Facio.
During a traffic stop, suspect Roger Nunez retrieved a handgun and exited his vehicle. After a foot pursuit of approximately one mile, Nunez fired at Officer Facio from 60 to 70 yards away, striking him in the face. Officers returned fire and struck Nunez. Facio died in the line of duty on June 8, 2025.
Pinal County Attorney Brad Miller has filed a notice of intent to seek the death penalty against Nunez. Miller alleges the crime meets statutory aggravating factors under Arizona law, including the killing of a peace officer in the line of duty.
