We will also talk about prickly pear\, barrel\, cholla\, hedgehog and pincushion cacti. The route follows San Tan\, Stargazer and Moonlight Trails and returns via the Service Road for a 3-mile loop. The trail surface ranges from smooth and level to uneven with small to medium rocks underfoot. If you would like to learn how to document your findings via the iNaturalist citizen science project\, please download the free app at home and register with a username prior to arrival. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring snacks and plenty of water. Binoculars are helpful. Make sure your phone is fully charged to take photos. DESCRIPTION:Get outside this summer with our staff on a family friendly educational hike! On this sunrise hike\, learn about our unique collection plants\, Sonoran Desert ecology\, and meet our resident Sonoran Desert Tortoises. Be sure to wear closed-toe shoes\, sun protective clothing\, and bring plenty of water. \n\n\n\nSign up for this free hike at the admissions booth on the day of the walk. Sunrise Hikes are first-come\, first-served and limited to 15 guests. Reservations are NOT accepted. \n\n\n\nWhat to bring/wear: Close-toed shoes\, plenty of water (minimum of 32oz)\, clothing comfortable for warm weather\, hat\, sunscreen\, and snacks (if needed). Our gift shop will be open to purchase water bottles and snacks. \n\n\n\nDistance: Approximately 1 mile \n\n\n\nDuration: 1 hour \n\n\n\nType: Out and back \n\n\n\nTrail conditions: Mostly flat\, hard packed dirt with small portions of sand and cobblestone. Our trails are not leveled and contain uneven terrain\, humps\, and dips.
